Driveways
The most critical factor is the slope of your block. If it is too steep, concrete will be the only surface that will give you any longevity. This can prove to be very costly, especially if you have a long driveway, which is usually the case on a steep block. If the incline is between 10 and 25 degrees there is the option of roadbase and cement.
The key to the longevity of the surface is the quality and clay content of the material, preparation of the area to ensure adequate drainage and sufficient compaction to ensure consolidation and sufficient moisture to allow the mix to set. It is very important to get the drainage right and get the water of your driveway into a drain as quickly as possible. This can act as a checklist to ensure any quote you may get is going to give you the result you’re after.
Once below 5 or 10 degrees there are many more decorative options to go for that will not break the bank. Road base with a gravel surface (such as 10 or 20mm Mary River Gravel) s a great option.
Decorative pebble, while being a little more expensive can make more of a statement. For a free quote drop into The Yard and we'll help you do it right.
