Secret Gardens

I like to think of the garden much like a house; it is made up of rooms each designed for a specific purpose.  Only in your garden, you can let your imagination run wild and capture a different atmosphere in each room.

For example in your entertaining room you need a cross between form and function.  It needs to be pleasing to the senses and allow for a comfortable surround in which to entertain.  In these rooms a nearby water feature is a great way for setting the scene and creating the right ambience to relax after a busy day.

It makes sense that this room faces north and has a row of deciduous shade trees along the southern end to protect you from the harsh sun in summer and allow the warm winter sun in. Alternatively a high pergola with a deciduous climber will create a great feel.  A living screen 2-3 metres high to protect you from the prevailing winds and prying eyes is also a good idea.

A hut or pavilion with attached BBQ or cob oven allows you to add some culinary flavours to your sensory feast and the hut gives you a place to enjoy our tropical downpours without discomfort. It is also a good idea to create a quite place to relax and unwind by yourself. A hammock, two of your favourite trees and the subtle squeak of bamboo your only companion.

If you have kids, a room where they can explore their inner animal without fear of knocking over mums pots or becoming prisoner to her roses.  A room totally enclosed in thick scrub with a small entrance and a climbing tree might do the trick.  A boardroom for secret kids business! Your mind is the limit. If you're having trouble opening the door to your dream room come into the yard and we’ll give you a hand.
